L-isms
There's been quite a list of wonderful things escaping my daughter's adorable little lips lately. I think we are crossing into the kids say the darnedest things. Some recent goodies:

O and I were discussing getting her hair cut really short. It's pretty cute right now with a bang and a long-ish bob but there are a lot of tangles and she gets fed up with it when it's hot and I was looking at pics of her from last year and it was pretty cute shorter. Well, still no decision on that but while we were talking about her, she pipes up with: Cut my hair? Oh no, but I'll look ridiculous! Heh. Word for word. So then I said, stifling my giggles, L, what do you mean, ridiculous? What does that mean? And she said, It means I'm going to look funny Mom. AW! We assured her that she there wasn't a haircut in the world that would make her look ridiculous and then secretly marveled to each other that she seemingly used the word correctly. Hmmm. Must remember to watch what I say more.

Tonight when we were getting ready for bed, I told her to go potty. And she did, she can put her seat on the big potty and move her stool so she can climb up. Then she wiped and flushed. She even took her seat out, how considerate! Right after her I needed to pee too, so I sat to pee and she asked me if she could flush it when I was done. I told her that it was okay, it didn't need to be flushed again and we could wait until the next person used it before flushing. We're in the why phase hardcore right now. She immediately inquires as to WHY we have to wait and can't just flush it again. So I tell her that it wastes water. She paused a moment to consider that and then said: Don't worry Mommy it's okay, the water comes right back. How do you argue with that? So I started to explain the finer points of flushing, stopped myself, and let her flush the damn toilet. She gleefully made me watch it with her. See Mommy, it comes right back!

Another ongoing personal favorite right now is her fascination with school. She wants to go to school. In fact, she tells me that she NEEDS to go to school. She will ride there on a bus and work on her robot and check her email. I will miss her but I can call her. And I shouldn't worry because she will come back. Let's see if this attitude persists for 2 more years. The origin of the email part is a no brainer. The robot is a little more puzzling.

I heart L.

In other news, I'm going to Minnesota. Woo! Never been to that part of the country before and I must admit that I'm intrigued. There's a workshop there for teaching undergraduate Neuroscience. I'm going with someone from the bio dept here that also teaches in that area. And the best part is that the Dean has agreed to support our trip. It's more than the max they give out for a conference! How cool is that? I seriously have the best job ever.
